Nocturnal War

. . .That was one crazy weekend! Met three "new" people; hoping to get their contacts soon. ^^ We even got some work done on Saturday! I was so surprised. Shells sorta crashed on the couch. But Huklin and I got work done. =) Speaking of whom.... I'm never sleeping with a guy ever again! Men are so anti-social in bed! grr...
. . .Hrrmm... that might be misinterpreted a great many ways, so I think I should probably explain. Most guys have a certain level of homophobia, and to "prove" themselves, they end up doing silly things... such as sleeping as far away from each other as possible... ...even though the blankets only have so much area they can cover. SO, this silly gesture results in a large tunnel of air being created between the two (or more) bodies, lending to a lot of ventilation (and therefore) a drastic drop in body temperature.
. . .Arguably, the opposite isn't necessarily better either. I remember one time where the guy moved around so much in his sleep... the waking up experience was ehh... ... ... a bit of an adventure. I won't speak much on the subject cuz it happened so long ago. But yes. No more last-minute sleepovers. Either that or I should get an emergency stash of sleeping bags for my overnight guests. haha...

Crestfallen

. . .Finished my two midterms today. They were better than I thought, but the more I think about it, the less sure I am of how well I did. Originally wanted to work in Illustrator, but was whisked away back to Toronto in the early afternoon (at around 1:30pm). It feels... good to be home? The ride back wasn't as bad as last time, where I was suffocated for most of the trip. Different people really do have different physiologies... the driver apparently cared more for warmth than oxygen... o_O
. . .Strangely, this evening is just about to get started... so let the good times roll! =D

Fractured

. . .Went grocery shopping last night. I now have $1.82 in cash. But with enough food for the rest of the week... ... and six TTC tokens.. lol. You know, this poverty thing actually isn't so bad, once one gets used to it. =) It *really* teaches me how to budget -- something I once was only mediocre at doing.
. . .Moving on from my financial update, I have 2 midterms coming up tomorrow. Calculus, which I've been averaging a 60% in (from the assignments... well, actually, I think 60% was the best mark of the three assignments.. o_O) and German, for which I sorta have the grammar down, but really need to memorize those irregular verbs... ... and all their funky conjugations. I barely even know the dative/genitive pronouns... lol.... or the possessive pronouns... crappit... lol.
. . .I've recently become an "artist" at dA (deviantart.com)! ^_____^ Unfortunately, I don't have a lot posted right now, but hopefully once I get more time/resources (e.g. scanner), I hope to quickly increase my lil' gallery. Additionally, it should give me the incentive I need to manage my time better. Aside from that, nothing too interesting happening today.. Gotta finish that calc assignment!

Updated 5:44pm

. . .K, I was sorta off... Apparently, my calc. assignment average was slightly higher than I thought -- 66.56% And since everybody else in that class is like, a genius, my marks aren't really gonna enjoy any bell-curving. And still not panicked, though I really should be... Two midterms tomorrow!!! GAHH!!!

Skewed

. . ....And that's why I shouldn't blog when I'm really really tired. Makes me sound more depressed and scary than things really should be. I think I've worried every reader of this blog, and freaked out yet another friend from one of those weird e-mails I'm infamous for. But after a LOT of sleep (went to bed at around 9:30pm) I think I'm feeling better. =) The money situation is rather factual, but I can certainly change my perspective on the matter, can't I? As for the OSAP thing, the Canada Post guy told me around 5 business days.. so that means this Friday or next Monday. ^_^
. . .And so, I hope to finish studying for German today and get half of my Calc assignment done. ...And quite possibly study for Stat 230 as well. Stupid math. grr... I gotta remind myself to drink more water... lol... bad habits die hard. haha...

Added 10:17pm
I've come to the conclusion that one should always do things without thinking about how it might affect others. After all, it's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission. =P

Believe

. . .With around $-66.something in my bank account, I have $20 in my wallet to get me through the next two weeks that OSAP takes to give me the money. Isn't life fun? I also have 2 midterms this friday. Yay! And my overdue essays are dreadfully overdue. Funny how the internet makes the sense of urgency less stressful.
. . .But the weekend was a lot of fun. And although I didn't get to see everybody, it was fun nonetheless. ^^; Though strangely enough, most of these people were new... well, "new"... lol.
. . .Sorta makes me wonder 'bout life. Why couldn't we get that uni-education WHILE we're on the job? what's wrong with the apprentice system? just because it's old doesn't mean it can't be modified. But not like one man can change the world... ...well, not me anyways. ^^; I'd best get back to work now... ... and wondering if I can live on liquids for 2 weeks.

Edited 8:12pm

. . .Grr... I gave in to hunger today... T_T In total, I had an egg muffin, 591 mL of Sprite and two sandwiches. I hope I can do better tomorrow... I'm so mad at myself for wasting my resources like that... ...and for those of you who don't really know me, I'm not anorexic! I'm simply in a hellish state of poverty.

Asymptotic

. . .Wow... today was a nice, long day. If only I knew it was gonna start at 2:30pm, I wouldn't have woken up at 9:00am. So anyways, met up with Ichniba for "lunch" at around 3:00pm or so. Chatted for a bit, then drove around for a bit, trying to find this bowling place thing. Finally found it, and met up with Morning_dew and her HS friends. Aside from the rather awkward first few moments, they turned out to be a pretty cool and interesting bunch.
. . .Anyways.. So we met up for bowling, but then Ichniba's family called and he had to go to a family dinner cuz it was his uncle or grandfather's b-day... :( So he left us. And the lot of us (morning_dew's HS friends and I) went to Korean BBQ for dinner (this being now about 6:00 or 6:30pm). Little did I know that it would largely entail lots and lots of meat. Everybody thought I was vegetarian or vegan or something... haha.. I had a hard time tersely explaining that I just like to have 2 parts green for every one part of meat I consume.
. . .So while the dinner was filled with em... less-than-tasteful conversation, it did give me a pretty honest oppertunity to get to know all of them a bit. And all of them turned out to be pretty cool. =)
. . .After dinner was karaoke. Which was sorta different cuz originally we were supposed to go bbt... which I guess means that "next time" will have to be bbt? I don't know how well I mix with the group though... I think one thinks I'm chasing after someone, while another thinks I'm a japanophile or something... T_T and the fact that that I was introduced as a mathie doesn't really help my case either... Though I guess if I were introduced to someone as a mathie, I wouldn't be terribly eager to get to know him either. Ah well...
. . .Karaoke lasted 'til midnight. At Twister!! They have fully automated computers now! The indexing and listing could still use some sort of order, but aside from that it was pretty good. Searching for songs wasn't as painful anymore... unlike those days when one had to hopelessly flip through volumes of books for a song that they might not have by a group they might not have heard of. =/ It's too bad there's no central karaoke data system for asian songs... that'd make things so much easier for all us assorted groups of CBC/fob's.

Plans and Actions

. . .Wow... spent another 24+ hours with a boy... *sighs* wait... crap, that sounded wrong. haha. It's been one crazy reading weekend for me. Mainly cuz of the sheer number of hours I spent with the boy, I didn't get as much studying as I would have liked.... =/
. . .But it's all good... cuz uhh... yah... hehe. It's good to just laze around and not do anything in particular, eh? Though I'm now stressing about how much German I can possibly cram in before Monday... ... with a Calculus midterm on the friday... eeps... luckily, German is only an elective for me, but I'm supposed to be a linguist, dammit.... T_T dunno what's gonna happen. I'm supposed to be meeting someone for lunch today... I still haven't decided what we're doing though... eep...
There simply isn't enough time!!! Well, that and I have this curious inclination to NOT work when I have more than 8 hours between lectures..

Butterfly~

. . .*Yawn* Just woke up... ... well, maybe about 15 minutes ago... I had a voiceless/wordless conversation with a butterfly last night. That was fun. At least there's ONE person in the world with whom it's not necessary for me to be blunt/direct. On the other hand, it becomes more a fact of knowing a person than actual subtlety, but subtlety in itself requires knowing a person anyways, right?
. . .I've been working so hard at math the last few days... Most of Saturday and half of Sunday was devoted to calculus (all but 2 questions! yay!). And the rest of Sunday and most of non-classroom Monday was devoted to Combinatorics. It's "interesting", but ehh... ... well, I had to get in an hour of TV, an hour of PSX and 2 hours of Adobe Illustrator to try to distract myself from the onslaught... (it's proving to be a bit much.)
. . .I'll blog some more later; I have a 2-hour Calc session today... fun... ... and 2 math assignments due tomorrow... double fun.

2004/02/14

WTF?!?!

. . .Man, I'm really disliking my neighbour now... the blessed man really loves his bass... ... turns it up all the way, 'twould appear... Friggin' woke me up... ... and it'd deafening; I can't think or concentrate with that damned rhythmetic droning.

Happy Valentine's Day

. . .Wow, an actual topic to blog about. Love. What is love? Well, I'm gonna slay that opening with "blah!!". =) There's this moth/butterfly inside joke going around between myself and my friends... haha. For me, it's nothing big; just maybe a day for couples to splurge that money to show their affection for one another?
. . .But after browsing a few of my personal favourite online artists (at deviantart.com) I was sorta inspired to draw something "love-y"... haha. So I basically have yin-yang in human form in a sort of embrace. Only I sorta lost perspective half-way down and now it looks like the guy has kangaroo legs. o_O
. . .Meanwhile, I gotta somehow muster the strength and willpower to actually work this weekend. Cuz I'll be so screwed if I don't. T_T But at least I get the apartment to myself this weekend. haha, yay! One roommate is off on a winter retreat, and t'other is off in Texas trying to save the planet. Good for them. And then there's me, with a fun-filled weekend of math. *sobs* I don't know how much more of this I can take...
. . .Oh yah!! And happy birthday to Jörick! With a b-day so dangerously close to a "day of love" one wonders what all relationships for you portend...

Terseness

. . ."Short and Sweet," as they would say. Having said that, one would wonder how this post might be... haha...
. . .Yesterday, I wasted hours in front of the TV just because it's so damned easy to do. And I discovered this hilarious children's cartoon -- "Teen Titans", from the producer of Superman, Batman : the Animated Series, Batman Beyond and Justice League, Glen Murakami. It's really given me quite a kick, and I think I've found a new sanity-preserver in this tasteless and unrefined lump of grey, ie Waterloo. What's it all about? Not terribly sure yet, 'cept that it has Robin (from batman), and some other interesting characters, each cool in their own way... (personal favourites are Raven and Beast Boy. :D)
. . .Funny egg incident happened yesterday... ... but it's more easily told with my wild gesticulations, so I'll save that story for when I'm back in Toronto. =)
A Japanese producer in an American company... no wonder the songs were in Japanese... hehe.
. . .Anyways, musn't digress... I have a lot of work to do, and much more to avoid. Tschüss~

2004/02/09

Yay! ...D'oh...

. . .I got my combinatorics midterm back today! =D And I passed! ...with an 85%... which I guess isn't so bad... 'til I realized that some people got 115%... ... which just isn't so cool... T_T And aside from the obvious 20% I lost (out of a hypothetical 125%) I lost another 20% on really stupid mistakes... I'm kinda scared to ask what the class average was... (average of like, 10 people or something...)
. . .BUT! At least I learned something out of it, and I actually understand the concepts! Had I not crammed those two days, I shudder to think what sort of awful marks I would have received. Ah well... I had a weekend of play... which was very relaxing for me. I guess today and tomorrow should also be filled with work. Whee!
. . .And just to show how much I enjoyed my weekend, I'm gonna make a shoutout to everybody I saw o'er the weekend! (In chronological order) :
Jessica :: Wow, it's been such a long time, eh?!?! It was crazy-coincidence, but it worked out pretty well, don't you think? haha... Yes, I still like Toronto more... :P We should get back into the habit of writing letters, eh?
Jennifer :: "ch" in German can take on three different sounds, depending on which vowel it follows... it's like, a "hard" -ch if it comes after an "a" or "o" or "u", but it's a "soft" -ch if it comes after an "i" or "e"... or something like that. o_O Keep on singing! I don't have to speed up anymore for Journey to the Past anymore! =D
Jörick :: No, I'm not bitter... hahah... I didn't know that your ears were that good at night... lol. I hope you're still drawing; I wanna see some new stuff in your sketchbook next time I'm back in town! ^_^
Edward :: Rubik's cubes are cool. Thx for teaching me some other algorithms, eh? ^_^ I know, it was sorta nerdy, but hey, we'll probably end up as some other guy's boss, right? haha... Come to Waterloo for Software Engineering! ;)
Brandon :: Sleep more! ... and study more too while you're at it! LoL.. kinda hard to do both at the same time, eh? haha... games aren't that important, and technically neither is school... but we're all Chinese here, so... ;)
Lena :: I henceforth dub thee "Ellie". =) You have such an awesome array of music!! Where do you find all of it anyways!? No, I'm not jealous... lol. And thx a million for the ride home, eh? XD

Endlich~

. . .I wrote my Combinatorics midterm today... and I could actually do all of it!!! Granted, I probably lost some marks for failure to explain what exactly I was doing, omiting therefore statements, etc... and I forgot to do 2.c, but overall, I think I was ok.... ... at least, I hope so... haha...
. . .You have no idea how good it feels to know what's going on again. For the past month, I've been sitting in class, totally lost, hoping that if I sit long enough, things would just fall into place. But no. It took two half-days of full-blown study/cramming to get things going. And know I understand some stuff... (and can appreciate why it's easier than my weird counting method.)
. . .I'm now back in THE Candian city, aka Toronto. Cuz, ya know, it's big, dirty, and inpersonal. Just like America! Yay... haha.. seriously though, it's the only centre of civilization closest to Waterloo.. *shudder* Aaaanyways... yupyup... still got a lot to cram for... and if I get overzealous in my cramming, I just might even be ahead by a lecture or two... That'd be very cool. =)

2004/02/05

Erudition

. . .It never fails to amaze me, but apparently, studying pays off!! Well, maybe with that added ingredient of adrenaline cuz my midterm's tomorrow... but wow... Combinatorics are finally making sense to me. =) The notation, concepts, everything! w00t. As for German............ I went to the berlin website, and I was supposed to find 5 interesting facts, but... I don't know what counts as "interesting"... =/
. . .Coming back to Toronto this weekend... yay! :D Gonna do some fun stuff. I'll get to play piano again! Yay! And hang out with some people I haven't seen in a long time. =) Yay!
. . ....And now back to Combinatorics.

Orange Pekoe

. . .I think I'm developing an addiction to tea... Tetley's Black (Orange Pekoe) Tea, to be exact. I think I added a tad too much sugar into my cup, so maybe that's what I'm getting addicted to... mweeheehee.... in any case, I've been getting at least 3 cups a day of tea since thursday... o_O
. . .But as my MSN nickname said last night, "Tea -- the civilized way to pull an all-nighter". Not that I actually did... haha... but I did manage to deprive myself of sleep and still wake up on time for class. =D German is getting interesting; the grammar's starting to click again... (after getting two bloodied up assignments... T_T) So the moral of the story: Study. lots. Ah, Frank, why can't I be more like you? Hrmm.... scratch that thought... :P j/kj/k~
. . .And now for some Combinatorics cramming...
Added 11:21pm
Oh yah... interesting thing happened today in German... aside from the fact that I went to all my classes... haha... we were practising the genitive case (essentially, possessive for nouns)... Our instructor gave us the example, "the snow is the wintercoat of the earth", in which case Earth is the genitive noun. And then she made us make up examples. I was like, "the rain is the tears of Heaven...?" to which some of the girls (with german-speaking backgrounds) were like "aww..." And then my instructor says, "you've stolen all the girls' hearts." o_O Ah well. My instructor's pretty cool... ...though I'm sure I shouldn't skip class so much... ha-ha...

Prismacolor_(r)

. . .My first weekend in UW and I get a person above me who's playing loud base... not cool at all... or fun, for that matter... It's giving me a headache... (and I'm wearing ear plugs too... ) Not cool at all... ... I've n'er met this person who lives (above/beside) me, but I must say I am not impressed.
. . .Suddenly losing the will to work/live. Why can't I be happy here in UW? Or am I subconciously refusing to allow myself to enjoy the more simple things... *shrugs* Meanwhile, dreaming up a layout for what I hope to be my own corner on the net... If only I had a scanner...

They can really make you mad,
Other things just make you swear and cure.
When you're chewing on life's grissle,
Don't grumble; give a whistle,
And this'll help things turn out for the best...
- Monty Python, Meaning of Life
. . .I've been told I haven't been blogging as much as of late... ... though I'm unsure as to what one could possibly mean by that statement... o_O It's only been 2 days or so... ><; Anyways... first weekend in UW... Finished my Calc. assignment, so I'm happy. But I failed my second combinatorics assignment... so balance is restored. T_T
. . .German is mediocre. =/ Not doing terribly well, but not able to fail miserably either. And as for life in general... well, It's busy. Taught my roommate how to cast on (for knitting) -- knitting for the needy. It's a pet project, with a current goal of ehh... 30 articles of clothing, I think? like mitts, hats, scarves... Does a pair of mitts stand for one or two articles of clothing? Hrrmmm...
. . .So busy, and yet so unmotivated... origami, here I come!
